POETRY FRIDAY: SUN and MOON Poems

I just realized yesterday that tomorrow will be the tenth birthday of Wild Rose Reader! It's hard to believe that my blog has been around for a decade. Unfortunately, it has suffered from neglect the past few years. I don't have as much free time to blog now that I am a nanny granny.

I am hoping to do a few posts about poetry during the month of April. I have some books to give away.

Although I haven't been blogging much, I still continue to write poetry--when I get the chance.

For this POETRY FRIDAY, I am posting two poems that I cut from FARM TALK, a collection of mask poems that I wrote last year. The poems are told in the voices of a farmer and his wife, their domestic animals, and a few wild animals. The collection takes the reader through the day from dawn until evening.

SUN
I’ll arise and brighten the sky.
I’ll bid the night and dark goodbye.
I’ll shine
shine
            shine…
                        and light the way
for arrival of a brand new day.

MOON
Now that the sun has left the sky.
It’s time for ME to shine on high…
To spread my gentle pearly light
For all the creatures of the night.

Hi, Elaine. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your mask poems. Your sun poem here struck me, with its falling rays.

Love both of these poems and your book THINGS TO DO! I have it checked out of the library right now - a fun mentor text. =)

Your new book is beautiful in every way. I wish I could come to your workshop! It is fun to think about your fortunate grandchildren and all of the magical ways they will come to see the world as a result of spending so much good time with Granny! Happy Almost Poetry Month!

How much fun to visit a library and host a writing workshop!! We love having writers visit, it's so exciting for kids to get a to meet a real poet and ask all their burning questions about what it's like to be a real live writer. :)

I wish I could come to your presentation! (I'm still holding out for a copy of Things to Do showing up on my doorstop. In the meantime, I've reserved it at the library.)

Thanks, everyone, for you kind words!

Mary Lee, you still haven't received a copy? I'll have to contact Chronicle again.
